Sexual Addiction TreatmentOur Process:
If you could get along without sexual addiction treatment, then wouldn't you have stopped already…
Have you heard that before?
Isn’t this the truth though – if you could stop, then you would! At the Sonoran Healing Center we don’t believe you raised your hand and said “Sign me up for a sex addiction!” But now that you’ve identified with this problem, and likely tried to stop and failed, isn't it time to get help!
It’s the shame that drives this addiction and the fact that sex addicts carry their drug around between their ears that makes recovery so difficult.“So what do I do about it?”
Dr. Patrick Carnes endorses Certified Sexual Addiction Therapists (CSATs) for the treatment of Sexual Addiction.
As a CSAT, I recommend a process of specific actions that people who get and stay sexually sober do each day to ensure that they “keep first things first.” Put simply:“They do the things they need to do so that they don’t do the things they don’t need to do.”(Doug Dodge, 2008) – could that be any simpler? Simple but not easy…Our process of sexual addiction treatment at the Sonoran Healing Center focuses on helping you to stop the behaviors FIRST. We’ll worry about why you do what you’ve been doing after you stop the train! Until the behavior stops – nothing changes. Here are some of the deal-breakers for you and your sex addiction recovery:You must attend regular support meetings. You must maintain accountability with your therapist, a support group, and get and work with a sponsor. You must get your environment to support your sobriety. I recommend installing Covenant Eyes. Shut down your access to sexual material and set up a strong accountability system that works. You must find and develop a relationship with a higher power (who else can be with you always?)As you stop the train, we’ll look at the nature of your addiction as well as interacting addictions. Let’s find out what’s going on. If you think sex is a problem in your life, then you’re probably right – but let’s use our tools and see what we find. If we’re off, then we’ll go where we need to go to help you reach your recovery goals. The people who trust a process that works - work the process – no matter what happens! If you are in a relationship, then your significant other may be more willing to trust a proven process than more words and more promises. Actions are your only option this time – walk the walk – no more talk – trust the process because it works. Here are the components of the Sonoran Healing Center’s Sexual Addiction Treatment process:Individual Counseling – Each new patient works with me personally through an initial assessment as we work to develop a plan of recovery that meets your needs and resources.Group Counseling – Research and experience tells us that those who maintain recovery participate in at least three things – Individual counseling, group counseling, and regular and active 12 step group participation (a path to a spiritual experience). The power of the group, especially with regards to accountability, is tremendous.Partner Individual Counseling – It may seem like it’s all about the addict, but unless we look at the personal issues of the partner and help him or her find their own healing and voice, then the work of the addict is much more challenging and sadly the partner may be left alone, traumatized, and without the support they so desperately need.Couple’s Counseling – The couple is in crisis. The fantasy of what might have been has been shattered and now a moment of decision is at hand. Will the couple choose to risk being vulnerable and healing together or will they make a different choice?Issues of disclosure, honesty and risk, acceptance of the precious but wounded addict as seperate from the behavior, and the role of fantasy are all typically a part of the sexual addiction recovery process. Recovery involves both partners in recovery whether the timing of work in treatment matches or not.Workshops – Periodically, the Sonoran Healing Center will present half and full day workshops on various sexual addiction recovery related issues for our clients. Current clients have first options on participation in these workshops.“If you are ready to take certain steps, then we beg of you to be fearless and thorough from the very start…” (The AA Big Book)Fitting words I think. There is a far greater plan for you in life and it is my hope that you’ll allow us to walk some of that path of recovery together with you. Please take the risk of being known, give us a call and schedule an initial assessment, and “join us on the road to happy destiny…”480-287-2393 to schedule an appointment TODAY
